Writer's Meme: 40 Questions
I'm feeling kind of brain-dead from class, but I saw this over on Tumblr and thought it would be fun to try out here.

In the comments, give me a number (or a few, but no more than four), and I'll answer the question(s) truthfully and to the best of my ability.

7 Days of Self Promotion - Day 7: Something you're just really proud of
Last day of self-promotion :-/

The Days )

Day 7: Something you're just really proud of

I've always said that I'm very proud of Bookstore AU, and I'm also incredibly proud of all of my WC 'verses. I said it earlier in this meme, but I never thought I'd ever be inspired to write a 'verse, and now I have a few that are on-going and all very different.

I've talked about most of the AUs in the last few days, so I'm going to go back in the archives and promote a little fic called, Am I Missing. This was written for a prompt about Neal being kidnapped and hidden away in a box with a camera so that Peter can see him but Neal's in the dark. I gave them cell phones so that they could communicate, but it was most interesting that Peter needed the comfort of seeing Neal alive and moving and Neal needed the comfort of hearing Peter's voice.

My favorite thing about writing the fic was switching POVs back and forth with the locations and cell phones. Peter had other people around him and things going on, but Neal was alone and injured and in complete darkness. Then, the scene in the hospital after Neal was rescued was a lot of fun too - Neal was a bit sedated and clingy to Elizabeth, Peter was a bit clumsy, and Mozzie was silent but present. It's one of my favorite fics that I've written. :D

7 Days of Self Promotion - Day 5: Something for a large fandom/pairing/character
I keep forgetting to thank [livejournal.com profile] embroiderama for starting this meme. It's been a lot of fun!

The Days )

Day 5: Something for a large fandom/pairing/character

I've never been in any large fandoms, and I can only handle one fandom at a time, so I'm going to skip on to pairing. (Side note: I was briefly in SPN fandom but it was a side effect of being in the Jensen fandom, and I had no part of the craziness involved in the fandom.)

Pairing: Peter/Neal

As far as pairings go, the most popular that I've written in WC is Peter/Neal. Good Deeds Unpunished is probably my favorite of my P/N fics. I had been wanting to write drugged!Neal for a while, and when the Get Well Fest for kanarek13 came up, I knew that it would be something she would like - drugged Neal and comforting Peter and declarations of love. :D

Character: Neal Caffrey

Neal is such an amazing character. I have honestly never been as inspired by a character before, and I truly love exploring him in so many different scenarios and AUs. I've written 74 WC stories, and I can only think of two that don't include Neal as a character (but he's there in spirit in one of them). His mysterious past, his fascinating personality, his questionable morality, and his ability to be a gorgeous woobie all inspire me in various ways. Also, he whumps very well, and H/C is my favorite genre.

I couldn't possibly name a favorite fic that I've written that featured Neal prominently - most of them do - but he will always be one of my favorite characters to write.

Day 4: Something you made just for yourself

The Neal Hughes 'verse is a series that I've been working on for a long time. I've already talked about how it originated, but it's one of the few stories that I've written that hasn't been for a prompt or that came from a chat discussion or anything like that. I had the idea, and I thought it would be something different and exciting and interesting, and I think it's hit all of those marks. It's really been very fun to plot and write.

Redraw the Lines really was a labor of love. There were several points where I wanted to scrap the whole thing, but I got so much encouragement from my friends in chat that I couldn't give it up. I'm so grateful to them for that.

Since I have a separate post discussing the 'verse, I thought I would share the original beginning that I wrote for it. This was written before I hit on the idea of Hughes' daughter needing a bone marrow donation. It has also not been edited since I went a different direction with the story.

7 Days of Self Promotion - Day 3: Something You Made for Someone Else
Aaaaand, on to day 3 :)

The Days )

Day 3: Something you made for someone else

I love getting the chance to write a story for someone else... almost as much as I like planting plot bunnies in others' heads. :D

One of the things that I participated in last year was the surprise birthday stories for [livejournal.com profile] embroiderama. We each picked an age and wrote a story where Neal was turning that age and gifted them to her, and it was so much fun. I loved reading everyone's stories, but I also really enjoyed writing mine.

When Neal was Fifteen was set in the Stand by Me/Lost Boys 'verse, which I really love to write in, and featured a sick Neal trying to act like he wasn't sick and then clinging to Peter. I know how much E likes sick!fic, so that was my focus when I started it, but it turned into a cool fic. Most of the characters didn't get a chance to say or do much, but I feel like I got to show a little piece of each of their personalities. It's a challenge to write the characters as teens but with their fundamental personalities - it's also been a lot of fun.

7 Days of Self Promotion - Day 2: Something New
I'm behind because I couldn't get the internet to work at the hotel last night. I'm going to do two posts tonight to make up for it. :D

The Days )

Day 2: Something new

I've posted a To Do list on my LJ, but I'm definitely working on a few things. One of them is a 'presumed dead' story that takes place in the future where Neal is off-anklet. He and Elizabeth are on their way to Connecticut to visit El's sister when their train derails. Elizabeth is the presumed dead character here, so there is a lot of angst and Neal feeling guilty. I've been working on it for a while, and I hit a wall there for a bit but I'm working through it.

Story Cookie Under Here )

Other upcoming stories include the Bookstore story where Matt gets mugged while Tim is out of town, a Neal Hughes story where Neal goes undercover and he may or may not get shot (*cough*he does, he definitely does*cough*), a Stand By Me/Lost Boys story that focuses on teen!Peter and teen!Elizabeth having to make a very tough decision... I have all kinds of random story tidbits floating around in my WIP folder. One of these days I might have to declare WIP amnesty on some of them.

7 Days of Self Promotion - Day 1: Something old
This looks very interesting and fun, and I finally have time (and the brain power) to sit down and work on it :D

The Days )

Day 1: Something old

My first fanfic no longer exists on the internet thanks to the great purge of Geocities (who remembers Geocities?!). Though, to be honest, I don't remember the name of it. I started off in the General Hospital fandom, dabbled in some others, set up camp in Dark Angel for a while and now I'm here, torturing Neal on a semi-regular basis. :D

So, back to something old... I've always loved 'verses, but I never thought I'd really be able to write one. I had never been inspired despite loving some seriously scifi/supernatural shows. However, White Collar has inspired some fun 'verses, and the first one that I ever started was the Will 'Verse. I know, it's not a particularly inspired name, lol, but it's very dear to me.

I love the Neal/Sara pairing, and I like the idea of them having a baby (in fic land, not necessarily on the show). The first story, No More Secrets, also satisfied my interest in a post-Most Wanted world where Neal was a little more injured that he had been on the show. (Side note: I didn't remember, when I wrote the ending, that Neal and Peter had already had a 'no more secrets' exchange on the show.)

I do plan to write more in the series. I got hit with writers' block on the story I had been working on, but I will get through it and get more posted. I think there will be some time jumps too so that we get to see a more interactive Will. That will be fun :D

Fic Commentary: Neal Hughes
I've never done this before, but I've been thinking about it a lot lately. Redraw the Lines is the longest story by far that I've ever written, and it's also such a canon divergence that I thought it would be fun to look back at what inspired it. This might be a scary look into the inner workings of my thought process ;)

The Other AO3 Meme
I'm celebrating taking my first final exam and feeling pretty good about it :)

I know I stole this one from [livejournal.com profile] embroiderama before, and it was a lot of fun.

The Rules: I have 100 works posted on AO3; give me a number between 1 and 100, and I'll tell you roughly three things about the story. (The WC/WCRPS stories start at # 20, so you probably want to give me a number between 20 and 100.) I might write a mini-timestamp or alternate POV ficlet too. Or do some kind of art - Ribbet and I are besties today. You never know :)

(Yes, I should still be studying for my other final... do I care? Not today! :D Also, not caring about work at all either.)

AO3 Meme
Because I should be studying, but I'm watching hockey instead (and I can't write at the same time as I'm making sure no one's checking my hockey husbands too hard) - I'm going to do the AO3 meme that I ganked from [livejournal.com profile] embroiderama

Answer the following 10 questions based only on the stories you've posted to AO3.

1) Which fandoms have you written in?
White Collar (69)
Dark Angel (13)
White Collar RPF (12)
Supernatural (6)

2) Your best story title and why
I disregarded all of the titles that were taken from songs or poems, because that's how I name almost all of my fics.

Unbreakable and Unbearable are two of my faves. They're simple but say so much, especially if you're familiar with the stories.

3) Your worst story title and why
I've always hated "A Case at the Zoo". It's just... not good. It's weird, it's not as eloquent as I'd like, it's basic. I dislike it a lot. (Also, Not a Headache is pretty bad too).

4) The most popular pairing/fandom you've written for (by the standard of how many stories exist for that pairing written by everyone on AO3)
Peter/Neal, oddly enough. I've written it a few times, but it's the most popular pairing in the WC fandom (which is the biggest fandom I've written in with pairings).

5) The rarest pairing fandom you've written for (by the standard of how many stories exist for that pairing written by everyone on AO3)
Definitely that pre-Neal/Diana story I did since I tagged it Neal/Diana.

6) The most popular OT3/moresome you've written for (by the standard of how many stories exist for that pairing written by everyone on AO3)
The only one I've written is Peter/Elizabeth/Neal in WC.

7) The rarest OT3/moresome you've written for (by the standard of how many stories exist for that pairing written by everyone on AO3)
I've only done one OT3 pairing, but I'm not opposed to trying a Neal/Sara/Peter/El at some point.

8) First story and latest story you posted to AO3
First story was The Point (Dark Angel) - I backdated all those stories as best I could. The first few Nine Lives stories were actually written first.

Latest story is the WCRPF story Tired Souls, which I wrote back in August, I think, but hadn't posted to AO3.

9) Your top ten pairings on AO3
Elizabeth Burke/Peter Burke/Neal Caffrey (14)
Matt Bomer/Tim Dekay (11)
Max Guevara | X5-452/Alec McDowell | X5-494 (10)
Neal Caffrey/Sara Ellis (10)
Elizabeth Burke/Peter Burke (10)
Peter Burke/Neal Caffrey (3)
Clinton Jones/Original Female Character (1)
Diana Berrigan/Neal Caffrey (1)
Diana Berrigan/Christie (1)
Matt Bomer/Simon Halls (1)

10) How many stories have you written with no pairings/OT3/moresomes listed?
49 (just about half :D)

Ang's To Write List
Idea totally ganked from [livejournal.com profile] sinfulslasher. So, I have a lot of story ideas that I need to get written because I've either promised them to someone or I've cookied the hell out of chat and they're going to come after me soon for not finishing things. ;)

I feel like if I put this out there publicly, I'll be able to focus and get things done. So, here goes...

White Collar )

WC RPF )

There are other things that I've started or made notes about, but these are stories that I do intend to write/finish and get posted.

Dear Muse...
Dear Muse,

I really need to make some progress on RevBB. Like, a lot of progress. Soon. Very, very soon.

Can we please take a break from the sexswap pregnancy fic that already makes me jittery about posting to get some work done on RevBB? 7k words would be impressive if it were in my RevBB and not random crackfic for a fest that ended (I know they don't really end) months ago.

Winter Storm Really?
So, I've been in Detroit since Monday for business, and I was supposed to fly back home today, but my flight was canceled. I couldn't find a flight with the same airline until Sunday (are you freaking kidding me? It's Thursday!)

I found another flight that leaves tomorrow evening, so I'm hoping that it will be okay. It's supposed to rain/snow a bit tomorrow but not accumulate, so I hope the airports are open and running. I'm looking forward to getting home to my own condo.

I'm sorry I haven't gotten anything posted recently - I have several stories that I'm working on, and I've been so busy with work and school (I had a test and a lab quiz that I had to get done last week before I left for Detroit) that I haven't been able to write as much as I want. I've been debating a timestamp meme just to get me back in the writing groove, but I also want to focus on my current projects. And then there's RevBB - I know what I'm writing; I just have to write it.

Twelve Questions About My Writing, A Meme
I'm still working on the Fifteen Characters Meme, but this one looks so interesting that I can't pass it up. Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] elrhiarhodan.

Choose a number, any number, and I will answer it as truthfully as I can - some of these are very hard. The idea here is to be positive and fair about our writings, our process, and our thoughts about them. Feel free to request a number that's already been requested, and I will do my best to answer it in different or more in-depth way.

1. Of the fic you’ve written, of which are you most proud?
2. Favorite tense
3. Favorite POV
4. What are some themes you love writing about?
5. What inspires you to write?
6. Thoughts on critique
7. Create a character on the spot... NOW!
8. Is there a character you love writing for the most? The least? Why?
9. A passage from a WIP
10. What are your strengths in writing?
11. What are your weaknesses in writing?
12. Anything else that you want to know... (otherwise known as Fill in the Blank)

Of Crossovers and Memes
I dipped a toe into the crossover pool today, and it was kind of fun. I'm usually a one fandom at a time kind of girl, which doesn't really allow for crossover action. But I posted this Fifteen Characters Meme the other day, and it really is kind of meant to be an intro to crossing over your fandoms, I think.

Doc left me a prompt that wound up crossing over White Collar (Neal) and Chuck (Bryce), which was kind of awesome and perfect. I had fun writing it, and I might do more with the story if I can figure out the logistics of it.

If anyone wants to leave a question in the meme post, I've re-ordered the list of characters for another go.

A Documentary Rec and Other Rambles
This last week has been crazy busy. School started again, my sister and then brother were in town and staying with me, and I'm so not used to either of those things anymore.

In trying to get back into the spirit of my writing, I watched the documentary Brotherhood: Life in the FDNY today. You can watch it here on YouTube in its entirety. It focuses primarily on Squad 252 in Brooklyn, Rescue 1 in Manhattan and Rescue 4 in Queens, but there are interviews with other firefighters throughout. It was filmed after September 11th, and the firefighters do discuss it. It's a very powerful and raw look at the FDNY, and I absolutely recommend it.
