Random Mental Floss Facts
I got stuck on a conference call today and kept hitting the Mental Floss fact generator. The notable ones are below (with commentary in parentheses):

Under federal law, garment tags that contain the use-and-care instructions must last the lifetime of the garment. (Many of my clothes would beg to differ)

It is bad luck to whistle in a theatre. The superstition dates back to the time when off-duty sailors would run the fly system in theatres, and the sailors would whistle the cues to each other. Therefore, if you were to walk through a theatre carelessly whistling a tune, you might cause a scenic piece to fall on your head. (Interesting!)

On the 2001 New Zealand census, 53,715 people listed their religion as “Jedi.” (Ha - I would totally list this)

Jim Cummings, the voice of Winnie the Pooh, calls sick kids in hospitals and chats with them in character. (awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, too sweet)

Whiskey is clear when it is first distilled. It gets it's color and much of it's taste from the oak barrels in which it is aged. (wonder if it's more like vodka right when it's distilled, hmmmm)

:)

I knew that about whiskey - unlike wine, all aging is done in the cask.

FYI - French wineries import barrels from American bourbon distillers that have been used once and discarded.

And LOVE the new template. Where'd it come from?

;)

Hee! I still need to do some customizing, but I'm very happy with the new template ;)

I don't think I knew that about whiskey but I did read up on it a bit when the episode aired, so I may have forgotten. How is wine aged? In the bottle?

Wine initially in a cask and acquires a lot of its initial characteristics, but unlike whiskey, it matures in the bottle. I think it's some of the properties of fruit sugars as opposed to grains.
