It's true that Elizabeth is probably the English-language name with the most nicknames, but perhaps ironically I don't go by any of them. I'm Elizabeth and--with the exception of a brief attempt to be a Liz when I was 12-13--I've always been and probably always will be. I tend to sign personal e-mails and PMs "E." There are a very few people who call me that, and I do like it but I wouldn't want to be called that all the time. I think because my parents and family NEVER called me any nicknames, and so my first experiences with nicknames were the cruel kinds of things elementary school kids come up with, I'm just not comfortable with any other name for myself. If I could manage to make myself like a nickname, I think I'd want to turn myself into an Eliza or Liza or Liza-pronounced-Leeza. LOL I'm sure that's way more than you ever wants to know about my name issues.

And now I'm going to have to name a character Debbie.
