I haven't written much with handcuffs, but I found this fun drabble from one of my drabble memes.

It's one of those things that tends to pop up in one of two scenarios that I don't normally write: sexy times or busted post-crime by the cops/FBI. I do love how Neal can always get out of handcuffs on the show though!

I love AUs, but this is one that I have a hard time with. I'm not much for past time periods - I think there were interesting events that happened in the past, but I wouldn't want live in any previous time, and I don't usually read about past time periods.

I've been trying to figure out why this is, and I think it goes back to being taught history is the most boring way possible: memorize dates and events. I swear I have a mental block about it. On the other hand, I love the possibilities of the future - I've always leaned more toward futuristic scifi and less toward movies/tv that take place in the past.

Cool! Thanks for the answer. I like historical AUs a lot but only when they have to do with like the history of art or literature or science or something - like I don't have interest in the things that history buffs like such as Civil War AUs or WWII AUs, etc., for a lot of the same reasons - I didn't enjoy history class much lol.

Ooooh... this one is interesting. I don't fully understand it. I've read a few fics about this, and I can only think of one where I could suspend disbelief that the characters were pretending to be married for a legitimate reason. And it was only 1/2 of the couple that had to pretend, the other believed it through head trauma-induced amnesia. It was also written from the amnesiac's POV, so there was an added bonus of the audience not knowing if it was pretend or real for a while either.

Anywho, I digress. I'll think about it and see how I can spin it in my head for White Collar :)

Ooh that sounds like a really interesting fic!

I guess some of the time if people are going undercover then they might need to pretend to be married, like Diana and Clinton on that adoption episode of White Collar? But yeah, there aren't a lot of other times when it would be a reasonable thing to be doing haha :D

Yes! I love amnesia fic! It's a type of h/c that leads to some very interesting emotional hurt for everyone involved - the amnesiac is usually frustrated and upset and trying to make sense of the world they've woken up in, and the partner, friends, and family are all struggling to cope with a person who is not the same person they were the day before. No one knows what to do except hope the memories come back - there's so much story to be had there.

There's one WC fic that fits here: Remains
Summary: A man wakes in a hospital bed with no memories while an FBI team desperately searches for one of their own.

Mary Sue is a self-insert character. It's used for stories were there's an original female character that's good at everything and that the 'hero' falls in love with immediately. The assumption is that the writer is writing herself into the story. The male version is called Gary Stu.

I find the circus very fascinating. I can see the appeal as a child, but as an adult, it's a whole other thing. I've never written a circus story, but it's definitely a cool setting.

Here's a little something because honestly, I can't see Neal as anything other than a trapeze artist and Peter as anything but the best lion tamer in the business. This is, of course, a point of contention.

"I don't think this is such a good idea." Peter looked nervously at the ground, way too many feet below his, well, feet.

Neal laughed. "Come on, Peter. There's nothing to be afraid of."

"Falling. That's a definite fear right now. Death by falling."

"I won't let you fall," Neal said, as he grabbed the extra long trapeze bar that was hanging on a hook to the side of the platform. There was a trick that Neal, Kate, and Elizabeth did during the show, starting on the long bar together and then moving to separate shorter bars at set intervals while performing other high-flying tricks.

Peter took a deep breath to steady his nerves but it didn't help. "I really don't… this isn't my area of expertise."

"No, but now isn't the time to discuss that," Neal grumbled. He'd never liked Peter's job as lion tamer, saying that the lion should never be tamed. It's a beautiful, wild creature that should allowed to roam free.

"Hey, now." Peter's voice held a tone of caution. He had saved Simba from certain death as a cub, and their bond was damn near unshakable. He wouldn't apologize for saving the life of an innocent animal.

Neal held his free hand up in acquiescence. Then, he turned it palm up and held it out to Peter. "Last chance. Didn't you ever stand on top of something as a kid and wish you could fly?"

Peter didn't look down this time. Instead, he stared deep into Neal's blue eyes and nodded. "Didn't everyone?"

"Then, let's fly."

Nodding, Peter grasped Neal's hand, and they both grinned.
