Greetings!
I just realized I missed posting on Jan 1, so HAPPY NEW YEAR my friends!

In other news, I just learned of this Livejournal moving its servers debacle today, so I decided to go ahead and import my whole journal to Dreamwidth, and I encourage everyone to do so. You'll be able to save everything (posts and comments to those posts) in a few simple steps. If you would like me to write a how-to guide, let me know. I'll be happy to do so.

I haven't been posting much in general, but the major difference for me is that all fic will be posted to AO3 and then the story header info and a link to AO3 will be posted to the journal. Any comments can be left wherever you feel most comfortable (LJ, DW, or AO3).

I'm new to this cross-posting from DW thing, and I keep posting by accident. I'll get the hang of it.

My username is angelita26 over at DW - please feel free to friend me over there. I don't want to lose contact with anyone if LJ disappears one day soon.

{{hugs my flist close}}

HUGS and welcome to the bright clean world that is Dreamwidth.

I've been crossposting here for years - the only time I don't is if I want to create a scheduled entry on my journal.

And Happy (belated) New Year!

It's really easy and if you can't remember it, just save the code in a draft gmail message.

When it crossposts to LJ, the code is converted to something that produces the link but is crazy-stupid long. I can email it to you if you want it. The AO3 code will also work with Tumblr, too. Just need to change the site names.

I do confess there are still a few things I prefer on LJ - like the dropdown menu for tags. Which is why I'll go there to get the tags and copy/paste them into the DW post.

Could you post the step-by-step guide?

I've had a dreamwidth account for ages and never really used it much, and I hope this turns out to be nothing but it can't hurt to backup...

Also, Happy New Year :)

My thoughts exactely... I Always logged in as an open account on DW.
But what is the problem anyway, I guess I didnĀ“t get the whole commotion during my holiday.

My biggest fear is that LJ will shut down without notice one day. I've had this journal for 12 years, and I don't want to lose any of the comments, etc. So importing over at DW will at least save the entries and comments.

As I understand it, the other fear is that LJ used to have to operate under US laws because the servers were in California. Now that they're in Russia, a lot of those laws, specifically copyright laws, no longer apply. There's nothing that can be done about the work that's already posted because it already resides on the Russian servers regardless of whether it's deleted today or not. Because of this, all of my future fic will be posted to AO3 and then merely linked on my LJ, so the work will be hosted on a US-based server.

You can read more about what's happening here and there are links there to other blogs.
